Pontiac holds a special place in the heart of America, a symbol of ingenuity, bold design, and the grit that defined the Motor City. Founded in 1926, Pontiac became a brand that delivered powerful, stylish cars at a price everyday people could afford. Models like the Bonneville, Firebird, and GTO captured the spirit of their time and made Pontiac a leader in performance and innovation. To many, Pontiac wasn’t just a car company—it was part of our identity as Americans.

For me, this story is personal. I was born in 1992, at a time when Detroit was struggling like never before. It wasn’t just the auto industry that was in trouble—it was families, communities, and futures. My uncles, cousins, and neighbors lost their jobs as factories shut down, leaving many feeling hopeless. Some fell into tough times, even turning to drugs to cope. Growing up in the middle of this taught me about resilience and the fight to hold onto something worth saving.

When the Great Recession hit in 2008, it felt like history was repeating itself. I was just 17, full of hope when President Obama promised that help was on the way. He said he’d put “America first,” and I believed him. But what happened next was heartbreaking. As part of General Motors’ bankruptcy process, Pontiac was phased out, a decision that felt like a betrayal to the people of Pontiac, Michigan, and all the workers and families who depended on the brand. Factories closed, and the local economy, already fragile, was dealt another blow.

The auto industry was pushed to “go green,” and while protecting the environment is important, the heavy-handed way these policies were enforced made it nearly impossible for companies to keep up. Jobs disappeared, and plants like the one my friend works at are now on the verge of closing because of overreaching regulations from the EPA. The promises of hope didn’t feel like hope at all—they felt like a trade-off where working-class families paid the price.

Pontiac wasn’t just a victim of market changes—it was sold out. The $11 billion loss that came with Pontiac’s closure didn’t just hurt the brand; it hurt the community that built its cars and the legacy of one of America’s greatest automotive cities. Pontiac was a piece of Detroit’s soul, and losing it didn’t just affect the economy—it took away something irreplaceable. To make matters worse, much of this restructuring benefited foreign companies and investors who didn’t share the same pride or care for the American worker.

Despite everything, I am proud of my roots. I am proud to be an American and proud of my family’s legacy of perseverance. We’ve always been fighters, and we’ve always believed in building a better future. That’s why this book exists—because I believe Pontiac deserves another chance. Bringing it back wouldn’t just restore a car brand; it would restore a part of our identity, give hope to struggling communities, and show the world what American innovation can do.

In this book, we’ll explore the full story of Pontiac—from its rise to its fall and the challenges that brought us here. We’ll look at what made Pontiac great, what went wrong, and what it would take to bring it back in today’s automotive landscape. This isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about a vision for the future. By embracing electric vehicles, smart design, and American craftsmanship, Pontiac could return stronger than ever.

Pontiac’s story is a reflection of America’s story—of hard work, ambition, and resilience. And as we look forward to what comes next, let’s remember that it’s not too late to reclaim what we’ve lost. It’s time to #BringPontiacBack. It’s time to believe in American greatness again.
